Egypt & Nubia Volume 1.

From Drawings Made On The Spot By David Roberts and Lithographed by Louis Haghe.

David Roberts (1796 – 1864) was a Scottish painter who started his career with a seven year apprenticeship as a house painter and decorator.

The printmaker, painter & draughtsman, Louis Haghe was born in Belgium and trained there as a watercolour painter and lithographer before coming to London in 1823 where he entered into a partnership with the publisher William Day. Day & Haghe produced lithographic illustrations of infinitely superior quality for which the firm became famous. A founding member of the New Society of Painters in Water Colours, Haghe exhibited with the organisation from 1835 and served as president from 1873 to 1884.
